Process and Aeration Upgrades for Wastewater Lagoons
Triplepoint Wastewater Lagoons are used in many small towns and industries as the main treatment process. Lagoons are also used in larger treatment plants for equalization, additional treatment, effluent polishing, and storm flow bypass.
Triplepoint Wastewater Lagoons have provided reliable and cost-effective wastewater treatment for many years. They are easy to operate and require minimal maintenance. However, with more stringent effluent requirements, many lagoons must be upgraded to achieve better BOD and TSS removal, and nutrient removal.
A lagoon is a simple aerobic biological treatment system with an aerated pond to promote the biological oxidation of the wastewater.
Other Aerobic Biological Wastewater Treatment Processes Include:
- Activated Sludge
- Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR)
- Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR)
- Trickling Filters
- Rotating Biological Contactors (RBC)
- Membrane Bioreactors (MBR)
- Biofilters
All these processes have one thing in common. They all use oxygen (or air) and microbial action to reduce the pollutants in wastewater.
Aerated lagoons use aerators for mixing and adding oxygen to the wastewater. They are either partial-mix or complete-mix lagoons, depending on the amount of aeration. Energy costs for lagoons are typically much less than those for other types of wastewater treatment systems. Aerated lagoons require less land area and shorter detention times than anaerobic lagoons or facultative lagoons.
